At MERO, we believe great research begins with curiosity. Our Independent Research Program allows students and researchers to bring their own project ideas and work with us to shape, refine, and execute them using our facilities and field locations.

Who Is This Program For?

Open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students as well as independent researchers who are seeking to conduct a self-proposed project in marine science, environmental science, biology, materials science, or related fields.

What MERO Provides

  • Access to laboratory facilities

  • Use of equipment aligned with project needs

  • Field site access (coastal, reef, and other)

  • Technical assistance from MERO team

  • Project supervision or co-supervision (optional)

Flexible Duration

Research duration follows the project timeline from several weeks to several months, depending on academic or institutional requirements

We welcome self-proposed topics as long as they align with MERO’s laboratory capacity, field sites, and research expertise.

A full proposal is not required. You may submit a draft or idea outline, and MERO will help refine the scope and feasibility.

Participants may access MERO’s microbiology, molecular biology, chemistry, histology, wet lab, food technology labs, and field research sites in Tulamben.

How long is the research duration?

Duration is flexible and tailored to your project needs, ranging from a few weeks to several months.

Are there any fees?

Yes, program fees depend on research duration, required labs, consumables, and accommodation. A detailed estimate will be provided after proposal review.
